Two Sides, Two Mirrors

I'm just gonna go out and say it: you're so cold to me. We speak different languages and live on different seas, and I know it means nothing to you if I just let you be anytime. I start feeling so alone, been away for days but it's known that you get so stoned you're living in a cage. And if I ever see you sober, I'd be so amazed. Don't throw your stones at illusionary things 'cos you're never gonna really know what the future brings I don't need your advice, I don't need your advice. I don't need you anyway, you and your broken wings. I'm just gonna go out and say it: we don't get along and no matter how you try and play it, I've done nothing wrong. And whenever I see you now, this song plays over and over again in my head: Don't throw your stones at illusionary things 'cos you're never gonna really know what the future brings I don't need your advice, I don't need your advice. I don't need you anyway, you and your broken wings. I'm just gonna go out and say it: you're so cold to me. We speak different languages and live on different seas and I just feel so stupid every time I think about it.

Dusty Track 05:15
There you were, playing on the summer grass. The wind blew and I knew summer's going by too fast. I couldn't go back to before- I didn't know what I used to be- a leaf on a tree, falling on the winter's floor. 'And everything fades in time,' she said. 'You're never gonna strike gold twice- that's my only advice, if I had some.' 'And everything fades in time,' she said' There we were, your head resting on my heart. The wind rolled across the folds of this lonely windswept hill. You couldn't ever take me back- don't you see I'll never learn? Down the dusty track I'll burn. 'And everything fades in time,' she said. 'You're never gonna strike gold twice- that's my only advice, if I had some. And if in time you lose your head, just be like the seasons and roll without reason till you're dead.' There you were, playing on the summer grass. The wind blew and I knew summer's going by too fast. You know I'll never go back- why don't you see I'll never turn? Down the dusty track I'll burn. 'And everything fades in time,' she said. 'You're never going to strike gold twice- that's my only advice if I had some. And if in time you lose your head, just be like the seasons and roll without reason till you're dead.'

If I were a river, I'd run just where I like take all my friends and family so easy on the tide and I'd just lie in the middle, a brilliant blue and I would never let you go and you'd start running too. If I were a river, I'd run just where I like take all my friends and family so easy on the tide and we'd float down to the ocean, limitlessly free until the sun would draw us up together on the breeze. If I were a river, I'd run just where I like take all my friends and family so easy on the tide and I'd just lie in the middle, a brilliant blue and I would never let you go and you'd start running too. and we'd float down to the ocean, limitlessly free until the sun would draw us up together on the breeze.

Hey guys, what're you doing tonight? I saw a movie yesterday where the main character dies and it's hard to believe that we'll never quite achieve what we want to in our lives. Back in the day, hey, I thought we all had it made. But now we're all just wandering in a six foot cave and it's not much of a reprieve when three of you leave and one of you stays. Don't give me the cold shoulder, 'cos I've been pushing boulders over streams to keep myself together, never rupture the seams. Oh hell, well I'm back here again. I'm tired of the same but I don't like change, well I'm back here again. And I'm not wasting my time, but I'm not using it well, what a story to tell. I always thought there'd be an ending of sorts- a blind crossfade and a bleached out frame and an orchestral swell- but I left it behind, and the end credits theme would only play in my mind. Don't give me the cold shoulder, 'cos I've been pushing boulders over streams to keep myself together, never rupture the seams. Stepping out in the morning, pinch yourself awake. Keep your eyes on the sand falling, keep yourself awake. I'm not wasting my time but am I using it well? What a story to tell. Oh, and I'm not wasting my time but am I using it well? What a story to tell. Don't give me the cold shoulder, 'cos I've been pushing boulders over streams to keep myself together, never rupture the seams. Hey guys, what're you doing tonight? I saw a movie yesterday where the main character dies.

How can you possibly think that I'm getting out of this? What can you possible think am I getting out of this? Rusting towers stand out on the waves- I don't know if it's just this air, but I swear: it harms more than it saves. And I feel I'm letting go of the things I used to know. How can you possibly know if you're getting anywhere? What can you plausibly know- is there anything out there? I wish there was some way I could have known before but it's just so easy to stay with the cowards that are hanging on the shore. And I feel I'm letting go of the things I used to know. I've been throwing stones down the well all my life, I was waiting for the sound as they hit the sides. Rusting towers stand out on the waves, Rusting towers stand out on the waves.. I would face it every day if I thought that that would lead to much, I would watch the last light fade if I thought it would stay long enough, the sea is laughing up at me as I try and keep my eyelids shut, the ships on the horizon line have all just started squaring up.

Mackerel 03:49
I could be your wingman but I get no recognition while you're tangled in their strings, oh buddy, use your intuition: this place has stayed the same for several hours since you necked it. There's no fire to your smoke, there's no mirror to reflect it. Oh, I could be your wingman but I'm running out of interest. I'd suggest you start with Scafell but it seems you're tackling Everest. You're a mackerel out of water and it's drying up my patience. You're a pyramid of nature that has crumbling foundations. I could be a dragon like the year I was born, throwing fireworks at the ceiling, spitting beer on the floor but I know you wouldn't like it 'cause it isn't in the spirit. Hey, you've managed to convince yourself that I could help you live it. You're coming off as selfish as you dive into the crowd, cold and clammy like a shellfish, cold and distant like a storm cloud. I would love to call you friend, but you've vanished for a while. Oh, I try to call you friend but it would seem I'm in denial.
8.
Brother, learn from my mistakes. Don't stick around here for two and a half years, just get on your skates. That might seem like an obvious thing to say but there was no one to say that to me- I don't blame them but, hey, I'll be standing in the last car of the train. All's well that ends well, I guess. But it's a fixed race, hey, I'll save my breath for the next. I could stay awake, it does wonders for my health- we're stuck in circles trying to outrun ourselves. We're like wild geese getting lost in the rain.

Marlow 04:58
Hey, I know, you lost count after 500 miles 'cause the next one's too slow. Hey, I know, you lost track after all that time 'cause there's nowhere left to go, go, go. Hey, I know, so steadily you navigate with your conscience in tow. Hey, ho, you lost track after all that time, 'cause there's nowhere left to go. Captain Marlow rolling to the station, floating down the Congo for his confrontation. And all the while you count the cost of all you've plundered, all you've lost. You're far beyond the turning back, you're caught in the thread of the ripcord's slack. And all the while you count the cost of all you've plundered, all you've lost. You're far beyond the turning back, your bags are packed, you know. Now go, go, go Hey, I know, keep your feet on the right track even if it's going wrong. Hey, I know, keep your eye on the smoking ship it's going, going, gone, gone, gone. Hey, I know, 'God is live'- he's on the stage (could he have been there too long?) Hey, ho, what an empty phrase, a turn of the page, just to keep things moving on. Now go, go, go

Staring Kid 03:13
Stare, stare, see if I care, I care and I know that you see it. I'm from the West and life gets on my chest and God alone knows how I feel it. Having nothing- a relative claim- we're all scared of life in some way. The day is so slow to return from the dark and all of us know how we need it. The train left an hour ago, there's a hell of a lick in its pace. There are too many laps till we're shot of the race, there are too many places to go. You kids, you see through me or maybe you don't, I understood naught at your age. There's no reason for thinking that you aren't the same I'll move on none the wiser, I know. Stare, stare, see if I care, stare.

I read your letter yesterday. Is the choice you make a path you take or are you swept away? Oh, the waist-deep water's held you back. Pushing hard, the water's fast and it feels like fate. I know that you've bundled up your pride thrown it out on the tide, oh watch it go. You held a dream so silent, friend. Remember how you made it out to be nothing then? Oh, the river's thrown you off the track. I hate to see how what you need replaces what you dreamt. I know that you've bundled up your pride thrown it out on the tide, oh watch it go. Ten long days and counting, swept beyond those age-old bonds and floundering. Oh, nothing grows on these ice cold stones. They'll choke things back, fill the cracks till you're on your own. I know that you've bundled up your pride thrown it out on the tide, oh watch it go. You've bundled up your pride, thrown it out on the tide, I didn't know it would float. I didn't know it would float.
